20/11/08 : Bilun í ljósleiðara
Kl 5:30 í nótt kom upp bilun í ljósleiðarasambandi við Símann. Af þeim sökum komast notendur Netsamskipta ekki yfir á vefsíður og póst sem hýst er hjá Símanum og notendur Símans komast ekki yfir á vefi og póst hjá Netsamskiptum. Tæknimenn Símans eru að vinna í að laga þessa bilun og von er á að þetta komi upp innan skamms.

Þann 7. júlí tókum við í notkun nýjan g.SHDSL.bis búnað í öllum símstöðvum í Reykjanesbæ. Þetta þýðir að við getum byrjað að bjóða uppá tengingar sem hafa sama hraða bæði upp og niður. Þetta mun henta einstaklega vel fyrirtækjum sem reiða sig á hraðvirkt og stöðugt internet við dagleg störf.

When the router is configured you start by opening Internet Explorer or Firefox and type in http://192.168.1.1. Then you will see the following login screen. The password is either "1234" or "12345".

After the password is entered you will see the main area of the router. We begin by choosing "Wizard setup".

We want to have the settings just like the picture above shows so we click on "Next".

In the "Service Name" field you can put anything you want but in the "Username" field you need to enter your username as well as your password below. The rest of the settings should look like the picture above. We click on "Next" to continue.

Now you can click "Log onto the Internet" and the router should start connecting to the internet.

Now we click on the "Main Menu" link in the top left corner to access the main window. Under "Advanced Setup" we click the "Wireless LAN".

Choose the top link or "Wireless" to access the settings for the Wireless LAN.

The only thing left to do here is to name your Wireless LAN and put a password. We start by putting a name in the "ESSID" field, this will be the name that your computer will see when it searches for Wireless LAN. Next we choose a password to enter in the "Passphrase" field and click on "Generate". Then the router will create a "WEP" password and inserts it into the "KEY1" field.

This is the key you will need to enter when your computer asks for a password to access the Wireless LAN. Please note that you should not use the first two numbers (0x) unless you are using a Mac. Nest you click on the "Apply" button to save the changes. Now your computer should see the Wireless LAN and be able connect to it.
